WHITE PAPER

“Lightweighting for Climate Action”

The white paper “Lightweighting for Climate Action” highlights the contribution of lightweighting to the climate protection goals of the European Green Deal. The primary objective of this paper is to increase the political visibility of the key technology lightweighting. In addition, it is intended to serve as an initial spark for the development of a European lightweighting strategy including the establishment of a joint research agenda in cooperation with the relevant stakeholders of industry and academia. To this end, the ELN aims to position itself in the lightweighting community.

Cross-sectional lightweighting technology promotes resource efficiency through material and energy savings. As a result, the ecological footprint along the value chain is reduced. This requires recyclable product designs and advanced production technologies in lightweight construction applications in order to contribute to achieving climate protection targets.
