How does ELN work?
The European Lightweighting Network (ELN) operates as a collaborative platform that unites multiple European countries to develop and implement lightweighting strategies for sustainability and economic growth. Its approach is centered on fostering innovation, facilitating knowledge exchange, and aligning policy efforts.
ELN’s key activities
include
Strategic Planning
Developing a European Lightweighting Strategy based on joint national initiatives and the ELN Whitepaper.
Research and Innovation Support
Coordinating the “Lightweight for a Sustainable Future” agenda to guide research and funding efforts.
Funding and Collaboration
Launching joint funding calls, such as the Eureka Call on Lightweighting, to promote multinational R&D projects.
Networking and Knowledge Sharing
Organizing delegation visits and conferences to connect research institutions, industry stakeholders, and policymakers.
Economic and Environmental Impact Analysis
Assessing lightweighting’s contributions to employment, innovation, and GDP using methodologies like the Lightweighting Satellite Accounting framework.
By creating strong partnerships, advocating for policy support, and driving technological advancements, ELN ensures that lightweighting remains at the forefront of Europe’s transition toward a sustainable and competitive industrial future.
